Spiral Face Mug
Halvorsen's face mugs are made on the potters wheel using a white stoneware clay. The faces are added to the thrown form using hand building techniques. Once the bottom is finished and the handle added the mug is coated with black slip, a liquid colored clay. When the mug is dry enough to handle the patterns are carved using the sgrafitto technique of cutting through the the slip coating to reveal the white clay. Once the mug is bisque fired a black glaze is applied to the interior the final stoneware firing is done. Sold individually.
