This fabulous, one-of-a-kind bowl is a tribute to society’s most welcoming institution: the library. There are 37 cast sterling silver figures on the base of this piece, browsing and reading among the many shelves in this miniature library. The main wooden base is cherry with accent cubes made of ebony (from old piano keys) and rosewood. The shelves and books in the stacks are made of copper and brass, while the books the little people hold are sterling silver.
The removable bowl is hand formed solid copper and holds about 16 ounces. The edge of the bowl is intentionally undulating. The shelves and figures are pegged to the base and glues in place. After applying the dark patina to each element, everything was waxed to maintain highlights and for easy care.
