Jupiter Series III

To create this meditative sculpture, artist Catherine L. Bohrman utilized a process called "lost-wax". After sculpting the figures and background in clay, she then created a wax replica from the clay mold. Then, at a bronze foundry, the wax form was repeatedly dipped in a ceramic slurry in order to form a shell around it. Once this shell was dry and heated, it was able to withstand the heat of liquid bronze being poured into it. The ceramic shell was then broken off, the bronze was smoothed, and a hanging hook was welded onto the back of the piece.
The resulting solid bronze relief sculpture was then coated with green and gold patinas, along with a coat of protective wax, resulting in a luminous, thoughtful piece perfect for the wall.
